Why I Started The Helpers

An acquaintance recently asked me, “after 38 years in a career in business and finance, why did you establish The Helpers, and what are you trying to accomplish?” I told him that the answer is really quite simple. “Because there is a persistent need in the World that is not being sufficiently addressed.

I founded The Helpers to create a community of committed and passionate people who will use their knowledge, skills, and experiences to create a positive and tangible impact on those in need — it is about becoming a champion for change and to find a higher calling — a calling rooted in addressing the vast disparities in lived experiences across the globe.

I am passionate about promoting the idea of giving as a means to becoming more engaged citizens of the world. Through The Helpers, I seek to encourage in myself and in others a progression towards a “global citizen” mindset: one of awareness, action, thinking, and being.

It is my firm belief that people everywhere are compassionate and caring and, given a choice and an opportunity, would gladly help others who are suffering. The Helpers was founded to amplify the message of a world in desperate need, to raise awareness of the world’s most vulnerable and, more importantly, how to help.

Awareness leads to action. By raising awareness and making it easy to help, people will be Happy to Help. Do this often enough, and people will begin to change how they think about the world and about their own place in it.

Through awareness, action, and changed thinking, a person becomes something different from what they were before. They become more observant, more compassionate, and more optimistic about the power of collective action. They become agents of positive change.

The Helpers is not affiliated with any political party, is non-partisan, and is not affiliated with any government, corporation, or religion. We exist, because there is a need in the World for compassion and action.

Engaging with youth at the high school and college levels is a cornerstone of our mission. By providing scholarship funds to youth Ambassadors who represent The Helpers in their local communities, we are nurturing the next generation of civic and charity-minded citizens.

Moreover, I am committed to creating greater awareness among the general public about charitable institutions that best meet the needs of our world in crisis. I firmly believe that every gift matters and that the collective impact of many small gifts can bring about significant positive change.

At the heart of our mission is the desire to create many new, first-time givers and to nurture a culture of giving. By making giving easy, transparent, and impactful, we aim to reinforce the habit of giving and its effects on both recipients and givers alike.

As we continue on this journey, I invite you to join us in embodying the notion of being “Happy to Help.” Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most.
